This weekend has been crazy. On Friday Night the baby's mother came home as she does every weekend I guess from her teaching job in Chiang Rai. On Saturday I was woken up before 8 and told to get ready and pack clothes for one night. We soon mounted into the pickup with a toaster and bread in hand. We were off to an even more remote town called Chun. Where the bathroom was an outhouse and the shower was a bucket with a pail. It was a my host moms fathers house. Her mother has recently passed away so she went to help him deal with the details. So I hung out and met the entire twelve people of the family. Saturday night we had Mocothai, the Thai BBQ and it was delicious. A friend of there's covered in tattoos started talking to me in Thai and pretty soon four of them were drunk, on homemade Whiskey and kept asking me the same things and telling me the same things all night. That night I slept in the living room with 10 people all under two mosquito nets. Then the next morning we got up at about 6 and went to bring food the the monks at the temple and then ate lunch and headed home. We hung around the house for a few hours and then went to the public school for a fireworks show and a candle lighting ceremony in honor of the Kings Birthday. After this we went to another family members house for dinner and then went home. This morning I was up at 5 am to go to the market and buy food and then bring it to the monks and have a prayer service. Since it was the Kings birthday there was no school today. So I went to the neighbors house and learned how to make a wreath out of hand picked flowers that are also offered to the monks and now I'm at an Internet cafe finally catching up on my stuff. It was a busy weekend. Tomorrow I'm going to school to eat breakfast with my host mother and then probably walking to this same Internet cafe so I can skype some family and friends since my class will all be in Chiang Mai this week. On Thursday I am going to Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai for a 5 day trip with all the other YE's. I can't wait. Things are looking up!
Until Later, Dacotah Smith
I finally have a chance to catch up on what yo've been doing and it sounds like you're a lot happier and having a really, really good time. Loved all of the photos but was wondering if you buy those balloons that you send up into the air or make them??? Sounds like something fun to do. I'm happy that you've now got a family who appreciates you and is somewhat affectionate. I guess I'm a 'hugger' and would miss getting hugs. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing at the guys having too much of their homemade whiskey though. Good practice for college!!! Did I actually SAY that?? Forget that I said it.
The experiences you're having are so amazing!!!
Have a fantastic day and week.
Hugs, SusanC
