I didn't realize until only a few weeks ago how generous Thai people can be. Take for example the neighbor who was on her way home and saw me walking today, who then turned around and told me to get on the back of her motorcycle so she could take me where I needed to go. This has happened many times since I switched houses, everyone is willing to help. My host mother gave me 1,000 baht before my trip to Lampang. I thought she was told by a friend that I asked to tell her to let me borrow it. I later found out they never did ask her and when I got my money for Rotary yesterday and tried to pay her back she insisted 1,000 baht was a gift. She also insisted that I hang up the Christmas card picture of my family downstairs next to there family pictures, as I am her daughter and forever part of her family. I never knew Thai people could be so gracious. Many people have gone out of their way to take care of me now that I am fitting in better and understanding the culture better. It was very very hard at first but now that I have moved into town and no longer need to depend on others so much I am feeling much better. I'm sad to say my year is almost half way over but so far so good.
Until Later, Dacotah Smith
