Southern trip was full of so many events I can't even remember them all. But I will try my best to tell you about the good ones. We first met in Phitsanulok for dinner and to receive two new t-shirts for the trip and name tags. We departed from there at midnight and headed to Bangkok. We took a plane from Bangkok to Had Yai and the trip had officially started. We first went sightseeing and to an aquarium. We stayed in a hotel one night and then we went to the Ice Dome the next day where everything was made out of ice, even a bar that served hot chocolate. After that we took a bus to the pier and got on a boat for a two hour ride to the island where we spent the next three days.
On the boat ride to the island we saw three tiger sharks and three dolphins the water was so clear you could see everything we also saw a bunch of jellyfish. After the first night on the island we got up and went swimming through a cave. On the other side of the cave was a national park, kind of a jungle in the middle of no where it was so cool. The next day we stopped at two places for snorkeling and spent all day on the boat it was so much fun. Makes me want to pursue marine biology even more now. The last night on the island we were all in my room, pretty much a house playing cards and snacking when one of the girls passed out. She has a heart condition and she was fine but it scared us all a little. The next day we went to a cave and she was advised to sit out. They said if you claustrophobic at all don't go inside and I thought, well I've been in some gnarly caves in Brazil this should be easy. So we got in the boat with two guides and we had to lay back to enter the cave but once inside we were okay. We got out and walked around a bit and then at the very end they had us all lay flat as can be. The top of the cave was only centimeters from my nose for the last ten minutes of the ride. It was so scary that my friends and I started singing songs to keep our minds off of how close the cave was to us. It was fun and something I will always remember.
The next day we went to another town called Krabi where we stayed at a 5 star hotel and were right across the street from the beach. We got to eat Subway, Italian food and did a decent amount of shopping. It was so much fun. The next day we had a choice to go rock climbing or snorkeling and since I know my rock climbing abilities are non-existent, I went snorkeling and we got to feed the fish and literally had hundreds of fish around us it was so cool. To end the trip we went to the Pearl Factory and T-Shirt factory and then we headed home.
We went to the airport and flew to Bangkok and then drove six hours by bus to Phitsanulok for a dinner and then I waited for 3 hrs until 1 am to get on a bus to Lampang to stay with my friend from Colombia for one day to say goodbye. The trip was amazing and I will never forget my friends and the chaperone's! I only had to say goodbye to a few people because were all planning to go see a movie and stay one weekend in Chiang Mai at the end of May. It will be super sad to have to say goodbye to everyone.
Until Later, Dacotah Smith
